About the artist
Lea juliane moucka
I’m an Austrian artist who paints with passion, fear and soul.
My work doesn’t begin with a brushstroke – it begins with the inspiration that finds me in my daily life. These inspiration can be a constellation of leaves forming a certain shape, a colour emulsion of a sunset, or a fleeting emotion that sparks an idea from a place i can’t quite name.
My atelier is based in the heart of Linz, but I also like to capture moments while travelling.
As someone with synesthesia, I perceive the world a little differently – sounds, words and emotions often appear to me as shapes and colours. These impressions flow directly into my paintings and become part of their visual language.
inspired by
My work is inspired by the strokes and the created atmosphere by Monet, as well as the strength and vision of pioneering women like Hilma af Klint and contemporary female artists who push boundaries through emotion, form, and presence.
Art styles
abstract nature
My work is inspired by natural forms and landscapes, reinterpreted through an abstract lens. Influenced by impressionism and surrealism, I aim to capture the atmosphere and emotion of nature rather than its exact appearance.
Contemporary Abstracts
In my contemporary abstract pieces, I explore bold compositions, layered textures, and expressive color fields. I also experiment with cutting, rearranging, and reconstructing elements to create dynamic, evolving surfaces.
Portraits & figures
My portraits seek to express emotional depth and a sense of human closeness, without aiming for photographic realism. Light plays a central role in my work, and I intentionally leave visible brushstrokes to preserve the energy and movement of the painting.
Textured & Tactile Abstractions
I work with various materials to create abstract pieces with layered surfaces and subtle depth.
The focus is on structure, contrast and the interplay of materials.
mediums
Water-based paint
I use acrylic paint for most of my abstract work and underpaintings. For small, delicate pieces, I usually work with aquarelle and gouache.
mixed media
I combine a wide range of materials like modeling compound, fabrics, aluminium, papercuts, glue, stones, sand etc. to experiment with surface structur, depth, and interaction.
charcoal & Graphit
For portrait and figure drawings, I mostly use charcoal because of its smooth blending qualities, which help me build compositions centered around light and contrast.
oil paint
Oil paint offers a depth and richness that I find especially suited to landscapes and portraits – and at times, I let it guide me into abstraction.
digital art
I design custom digital illustrations perfect for meaningful gifts for birthdays, graduations, weddings and more.
lino prints
I start my linoprints with a digital design, which I transfer onto a carving plate. I then carve and hand-print with care, combining digital illustration with traditional printmaking techniques.
